Nearby Guilin is Daxu, an “ancient” village. In keeping with the the old theme, there are red lanterns and red banners around most of the doors. Plenty of stalls offer traditional Chinese medicines, Communist-era posters and books, and 20s-style wire glasses. Not necessarily ancient, I guess, but just old will do. With the influx of tourism, though, how long will it take for the village to modernize and lose its claim to fame?
